Atlantic wave in Peniche, Portugal

Peniche · Portugal

From ego to soul.

Boutique surf coaching shaped by ocean awareness, personal progression, and calm attention.

A Peniche story, carried forward.

Surf Atelier brings long-standing local knowledge into a smaller, more attentive way of teaching.

Surf Atelier grows from the legacy of Waterlost, founded in Peniche in 2008 by local surfer Nuno Nico.

The project is led by Enrique “Kike” Lenzano, a surf coach since 2002 and author of From Ego to Soul, and Tiago Formosinho Sanchez, a technology entrepreneur and passionate surfer.

Together, they are building a modern boutique surf school: deeply human in the water, clear around the lesson, and focused on steady technical and personal progression.

Peniche changes the lesson every day.

Wind, tide, and shifting sandbanks decide where we surf and what we practise. Reading those conditions comes before technique.

Atlantic swell crossing the rocky Peniche coastline

We read the ocean first, then choose the right place and pace for the session.

Wind and tide

They shape the surface, timing, and safest learning zone.

Shifting sandbanks

They give each session a different route into progression.

The philosophy

From Ego to Soul

Inspired by Kike Lenzano's book, this philosophy shapes how we teach progression, patience, and awareness in the water.

Most surfers arrive focused on outcomes.

The desire to improve is useful. The lesson is learning when to stop forcing it.

Catch more waves.

Prove we can.

Progress faster.

The ocean changes the question.

Progress becomes less about controlling the sea and more about reading it. Timing, humility, and attention begin to replace urgency.

Four things we teach together.

Technique matters, but it works best alongside ocean knowledge, mindset, and personal attention.

Read before you ride

Ocean awareness

Students learn wave reading, currents, tides, and ocean safety because understanding the sea is the first step toward progression.

  • Wave reading
  • Currents
  • Tides
  • Ocean safety

Coaching with structure

Technique and progression

Each session develops position in the lineup, take-off timing, board control, and the ability to read the wave while moving.

  • Lineup positioning
  • Take-off timing
  • Board control
  • Wave reading

The inner lesson

Mindset

Surfing teaches patience, humility, and focus. Frustration, fear, and ocean anxiety become part of the learning path.

  • Patience
  • Humility
  • Focus
  • Confidence

Experience

Small groups, personalized attention, and real follow-through make each surfer's rhythm part of the plan.

  • Small groups
  • Personal attention
  • Real follow-through
  • Clear rhythm

Good coaching is only half the experience.

The time around each session should feel as considered as the teaching in the water.

Deep surf knowledge

More than 20 years of coaching experience in Peniche.

A learning philosophy

A pedagogical foundation inspired by From Ego to Soul.

Technology and efficiency

Digital systems designed to make booking and planning feel simple, fluid, and modern.

More than surf lessons. Learn the ocean.

Choose a structured course, arrive with curiosity, and build a more attentive relationship with the Atlantic.
